FESTIVE SEASON: my top 10 favourite christmas songs.

[en] hello my dears. today, on christmas eve, i want to share my favourite top 10 christmas carols and instrumentals with you. some of them are merry, some of them mirror the feelings of the past horrible things that happened all over the world. all of them contain the true meaning of christmas for me: love. love as a light shining through all the times of hardship one has to endure. 'a thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices. for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn'. these lines from my most favourite christmas carol, 'oh holy night', summarizes it all.

i'm wishing a very merry christmas to all of you.

what are your favourite christmas songs of all times?

  1. oh holy night - nat king cole
  2. a christmas song - nat king cole
  3. i'm dreaming of home from merry christmas
  4. maria durch ein dornwald ging - wiener sängerknaben
  5. walking in the air from the snowman
  6. love actually – love theme
  7. twelve days of christmas - kathleen battle, frederica van stade, andré previn
  8. here come's santa claus – doris day
  9. marys boy child - kathleen battle & co.
  10. cool yule - louis armstrong

frohe weihnachten an euch alle.

was sind eure allerliebsten weihnachtslieder?

MUSIC: 10 christmas songs definitely getting you in the mood for the holiday season.

to celebrate the holiday season and to get in the mood for christmas, what is better than listening to the perfect christmas soundtrack?

here are my personal fab 10 christmas carol playlist definitely being able to getting you in the mood!

how do you like my playlist

do you have a favourite christmas song?

  1. oh holy night - my favourite version is from ella fitzgerald. brings tears to my eyes every time i listen to it. it's so full of devotion, hope, and also a bit of melancholy. also the favourite christmas carol of david garrett.
  2. my favourite things - from the sound of music. for me the perfect christmas song because it talks of so many things brightening up the beautiful holiday season.
  3. 12 days of christmas - fiiiive goooolden riiiiings! i must admit that first i didn't like the song because it annoyed me. no joke! but after some listenings i embosomed it and have loved it from this moment on. my favourite version is sung by kathleen battle and frederica von stade from a carnegie hall christmas concert.
  4. walking in the air - from the snowman. no matter if sung or solely the piano instrumental: both versions are so beautiful, no matter if you have watched the movie or not. the overwhelmingly beautiful harmonies in a minor key will bring tears in your eyes and the lyrics are wonderfully touching.
  5. hark! the herald angels sing - a christmas carol classic. this song shouldn't be missed out on a traditional holiday season playlist.
  6. maria durch ein dornwald ging - once sung in my choir when i was in my young teenage tears, this carol never let me go anymore. i love the ancient medieval harmonies which are most beautiful and touching when sung by a childrens choir of soprano and tenor voices. when i heard this song for the very first time, i imagined holy mary wandering through the gardens of thorns, which miraculously turned into beautiful blossoms. this is the wonder of faith - it can move mountains and turn thorns into flowers ... and give hope, where there seems nothing to hope anymore.
  7. ave maria - by johann sebastian bach and gounod. wonderfully soothing harmonies. magical, with or without the lyrics. a beautiful homage to holy mary. and a genuine evidence that bach's music is perfused with feeling and not aseptic and cold, as many people like to state.
  8. in the bleak midwinter - a wonderful christmas carol. the lyrics are based upon a poem written by christina rossetti. in 1906 gustav holst (composer of 'jupiter, bringer of jollity') set the beautiful poem to music - what a beautiful unification! so devout and soothing. my favourite version is sung by sissel, the wonderful soprano singer from norway, who has also sung my favourite poem by lord gordon byron, 'she walks in beauty like the night' as set in music in the phantastic movie 'vanity fair', starring reese witherspoon.
  9. last christmas - by wham. a favourite of mine, every year, since the day i have heard it for the very first time when i was still in my young teenage years.
  10. the christmas song - my favourite version is sung by nat king cole. such a must-listen-to ...

have a wonderful holiday season.

OUTFIT: feelin' like a lollipop forgot in pyongyang, dancin' to the voodoo beat boom bam bam

this outfit features one of my new and already SO beloved miu miu dresses (i've got another one in black).

i really needed a dress in a nice bright red and i made a find with this designer which has a great capability to become one of my favourites, because the dresses are perfectly tailored, very comfortable and easy-care - what more could one want?
and no joke, i'm feeling so unf**kinbelievably great in it, especially in addition with my new haircut (yes, i'm still TOTALLY euphorized because of it), my favourite statement earrings from ASOS, the hermès bracelet and the mile high leather heels (which are very comfy, although they don't look like it) and the song 'le pop' by katzenjammer, still one of my favourite bands !!!!
i believe it to be the perfect soundtrack for this outfit (and my mood hahaha). the quote is taken from the lyrics of 'le pop'.

hope you like it - i mean both, my outfit and the song - although both are a bit crazy, but, well ... who cares XD

MACKLE-EH-EH-EH-EH-MORE !

'a life lived for art is never a life wasted.'

... what a fantastic statement, and how true. that's what macklemore states in his song ten thousand hours. a fantastic musician, artist, overwhelmingly creative mind. someone who knows his craft. someone who is really in love with what he does. 'if i had done it for the money i'd have been a f**kin' lawyer'. gladly he didn't do the latter. gladly i have visited his concert on the 29th of september´with his friend, just some days ago. his music and lyrics are powerful statements of (social) courage, strength, and a huge love for life. and that's what you can experience when you visit one of his gigs. i can recommend this experience to all of you. this is a true artist, someone who really loves what he does!

the pictures were taken by chrissie and me (and she mastered it to show that the sun shined out of the behind of the opening act), we also made some videos, one of it you can find in this post and on youtube (click). omg and they had a cello on stage! i love it when musicians have unusual musical instruments on stage, just like florence and the machine, who always take a harp with them ...

the audience was quite mixed. at the entrance we saw mothers with their children, adolescents and young people in white tees and blue jeans, some girls in casual dresses ... and we felt quite overdressed, because we both wore chiffon and silk blouses, jewellery and stuff and drank bubbly, haha. we had seats, and some ranks ahead us we spotted some seniors in suits.
i think the standing place wouldn't have been good for us. first, it's uncomfortable and second, i'm feeling way too old for that, haha.

my favourites were thrift shop (wanz was with them), same love (the song which made me a fan forever, because it is a beautiful statement towards humanity and tolerance) and starting over ... goosebumps in between! because of the cello, the lyrics ... somewhat a ray of light in dark times. somewhat it turned into a secret reverser for me when i'm feeling down. in general i think that concerts will always make you feel alive when you're feeling down. and if you have such amazing artists such as macklemore and lewis you'll experience this much more. i wouldn't want to miss it.

OUTFIT: playing the piano.

since i was 7 years old i'm playing the piano, so now it's already 18 years with this wonderful hobby. i really love it, because it's a wonderful way to express your feelings, to soothe your soul, and to fulfill yourself.

since 2008 i'm giving piano lessons and from time to time you can find new recordings of covers and originals by me on my youtube channel.
